At Asian Australian Storytime Project, our mission is to share Asian Australian histories with all Australian children through storytelling. We believe that every child deserves to learn about the rich tapestry of Asian Australian history in a fun, inclusive and interactive way. By understanding the past, our children will build the future.
Founded in 2023, Asian Australian Storytime Project began with a simple idea: to share our stories.
Storytelling is the beating heart of Asian culture, from China’s Journey to the West to India’s Ramayana. Growing up Asian in Australia, we realised that Asian Australians have our own stories, and our own unique culture and identity. These are the stories we hope to share with all Australians in our multicultural society.
From sensory storytime to singalongs, Asian Australian Storytime Project offers a wide variety of baby, toddler and child activities for your Canberra based school, playgroup or early childhood education centre.
Our stories highlight Asian Australian culture, from the gold rush and early anti-racism pioneers, to our inspiring modern day Asian Australian leaders. We don’t shy away from the past, and we focus on positive steps for an inclusive future.
Our standard 1 hour package is $100 for up to 20 children. However, as our organisation is a needs based social enterprise, we ask groups that are able to, to consider a higher fee, which can be used to offset costs for other groups as part of our “pay-it-forward program”.
All our storytellers have a current ACT Working With Vulnerable People Check.
Stay tuned for workplace cultural storytime offerings in time for Harmony Week 2024!
