About Asian Australian Storytime Project

Our Mission

Asian Australian Storytime Project is a not for profit community organisation. Our mission is to share Asian Australian experiences and histories with all Australian children through the medium of storytelling. We believe that every child deserves to learn about the rich tapestry of Asian Australian culture in a fun, inclusive and interactive way.

Our Story

Asian Australian Storytime Project was born out of the inaugural William Ah Ket Leadership Program in 2023, a flagship of the Australian National University's Centre for Asian Australian Leadership. This five day residential program brought together 15 emerging leaders aged 30-45 from various Chinese Australian diaspora communities across Australia.

We all knew that storytelling is the beating heart of Asian culture, from China’s Journey to the West to India’s Ramayana. Sharing our own stories with each other, we realised that Asian Australians have our own stories, and our own unique culture and identity. These are the stories we hope to share with all Australians in our multicultural society.

Our Services

Asian Australian Storytime Project offers a wide variety of storytime activities for your Canberra based school, playgroup or early childhood education centre. From reading books together, to play based oral storytelling, our storytellers can tell tales to captivate any child.

Our stories highlight Asian Australian culture. We learn about historical and modern day Asian Australian leaders, so that our kids will be what they can see. We also tell stories about everyday Asian Australian experiences that kids can relate to, opening up conversations about anti-racism and the importance of diversity and inclusion.

Whether it's Book Week, Lunar New Year, or just because - Asian Australian Storytime Project has a story to tell you.
